Mark DeAntonio Term Chair in Psychiatry
After an internal search, we are pleased to announce the appointment of Benjamin Schneider, MD, DF-AACAP as the inaugural holder of the Resnick Neuropsychiatric Hospital Board of Advisors/Friends of the Semel Institute Mark DeAntonio Term Chair in Psychiatry. This new Chair was conceived of in the wake of the untimely death of Mark DeAntonio, who spent decades as Chief of the RNPH Child/Adolescent Inpatient Service, caring for some of the mostly seriously ill children and teens anywhere, and training generations of child psychiatrists and allied professionals.
Dr. Schneider is an Associate Clinical Professor of Psychiatry who first joined the faculty in 2013. He received his bachelor’s degree at Stanford University, his MD at Johns Hopkins University, and completed his psychiatry residency and child fellowship at UCLA in 2011 and 2013. During his time on the faculty, he has served as the Medical Director for the ABC Partial Hospital Program, the Medical Director of the Continuing Care Programs, Chief of Staff of the Resnick Neuropsychiatric Hospital, and Associate Director of the Division of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry.
Consistent with the goals of the newly-created Chair in honor of Mark DeAntonio, MD, Dr. Schneider has worked in hospital programs throughout his career at UCLA. He received the 2015-16 teaching award for outstanding house staff teaching in the department for his work with Child Psychiatry Fellows and Psychology Interns in the ABC PHP Program. He also has served as a Co-Principal Investigator on clinical research projects aimed at developing novel treatments for youth with serious illness or developmental challenges. During his tenure at UCLA, Dr. Schneider has helped lead performance improvement and quality improvement initiatives and worked with his team to publish about their work adapting evidence-based treatments and using measurement-based care in the acute care setting.
